Hourly charges
for wedding receptions begin at the time your guests
are scheduled to arrive at the reception location.
In instances where I also
provide
music
for the ceremony, charges begin at the start of the preludial
music (while guests are being seated). For other events, charges
begin when I start playing (that includes cocktail and dinner
music).
Charges end when the music stops at the agreed-to time.
I rarely,
if
ever,
take an
extended
break during
an event (Bands take "breaks". DJ's don't... at least
they shouldn't!). I'm happy to take an extended break if
requested to do so, but please expect to pay me for that time.
Hourly rates
include one setup / tear-down of my equipment. In other words,
you do NOT pay for my setup and tear-down time.
However, additional charges apply if your needs
require multiple setups / tear-downs. (This often
occurs when I play for weddings with the ceremony in one location
and the reception in another.)
Travel
charges apply for trips outside of my "local" area
which extends roughly from Martinsburg,WV north on I-81 to
the Hagerstown, MD area, south on I-81 to the Winchester, VA
area, west to the Berkeley Springs / Hancock, MD area and east
to
the Harpers
Ferry and Charles Town area. Lodging must be provided
for evening events more than a 75 mile drive from Martinsburg.
We negotiate all travel-related charges up-front
on an individual basis.
Lastly, please
include me (and my wife Stacie if she is assisting) in the
meal count
if food is to be served at your event. Stacie thinks
it "tacky" of me to ask to be included in the meal,
but hey I'm a guy, so I'm ruled by my stomach.
Oops...almost
forgot to mention. Rates include all applicable taxes.
Booking
/ Reserving Your Date: Check out "Rick's
Event Calendar",
then contact me by phone or e-mail to confirm availability
and reserve
your
date.
If contacting
me via e-mail, please include
phone numbers (both day and evening),
as I always talk to prospective clients first before reserving
a date. Once
we confirm availability, discuss the basics, and decide
it's a "go", I record your event in my handheld computer
and online Event Calendar. We then proceed to the "written
confirmation stage"...
Contracts: For
27 years my clients and I have lived without an "8 page
attorney-approved contract." For each event, I
mail the client a confirmation on my company letterhead detailing
the basics - date, time, location and cost. The client keeps
the
original with my signature and signs and returns a copy to
me. We then meet in-person prior to the event to review the
schedule, music selection, room setup, etc. To date, this approach
has
worked 100%. It reduces paperwork and
has
proven
more than
sufficient
between
parties
intent
on
keeping their word and acting in good-faith. Which brings me
to my next
"unusual" policy...
Payment
/ Deposit: In most instances, I DO NOT
require a deposit or pre-payment. My policy (until given reason
for change) always has been: I
do my job, do it right and THEN get paid for it. Payment
is due IN FULL at the conclusion of the event. No exceptions.
Payment may be made by check or cash (no credit cards).
While
these policies sometimes cause prospective clients to stop
and pause,
please have confidence in them. My reputation - generated by
years of referrals from satisfied customers and event professionals
- is the cornerstone of
my business. And a solid reputation in this profession is built
largely by showing-up on schedule and doing everything you
say you'll do.
Rates, Policies
& Procedures are current as of September 1, 2005
and are subject
to change without notice.
