Circa
1982... ah, the days of college radio. That's me at the mic on WTSR,
the campus station of
Towson State University in Baltimore,
MD. I know it's black & white and kind of grainy,
but
the fact
that I'm slim n' trim and have a full head of hair makes this pic one
of my favorites.
So
you're thinking about having me DJ/MC your event. Before
handing over that responsibility, it makes sense for you to know
a little bit about me, right? Here's my "resume" in
a nutshell...
- Born March
22, 1962 in Pottstown, PA
- 1980 Graduate
of Berkeley
Springs High School - Berkeley Springs, WV
- 1984 Graduate
of Towson State University - Baltimore, MD with a Bachelor
of Science in Mass Communications
- 1st Live
DJ Gig - 1978 Sweetheart Dance at Berkeley Springs HS with
my best
friend Dave Williams. As budding DJ's, we worked for free
-- combining our home stereo components with a few pieces of
equipment
borrowed from a local nightclub owner. The girls thought
we were cool and the rest is history :-)
- 1st Radio
Gig - 1978 at country music station WCST in Berkeley Springs.
I ran the audio board during WVU football games and read announcements
on "The Trading Post." Yee-Haw!!
- Broadcasting
career includes WCST in Berkeley Springs, WQCM-FM in Hagerstown
MD, WCVT / WTSR at Towson State in Baltimore and WQZK-FM in
Keyser WV
- Quickly
realized after college that there was no money in radio (with
notable exceptions like Don Imus & Howard Stern), so I put
my degree to work in the tourism industry...
- Served as
Executive Director of the Eastern Gateway Travel Council in
Harpers Ferry, WV from 1985 to 1986
- Joined The
Woods Resort in Hedgesville, WV in 1986 and served as Director
of Marketing until 1995.
- Since 1995
have owned and operated Morgan
Awards with my parents in downtown
Martinsburg, WV
- Married
since 1992 to the former Stacie Bowman of Martinsburg, WV.
Daughter Rebecca, born in 1994. Stacie owns and operates
"Miss
Stacie's Tumblebus", a mobile pre-school gymnastics program
based in
Martinsburg.

Since that
first High School Sweetheart dance in 1978, I've gone on to play
hundreds of live events -- from school sock hops to formal weddings
for
500. Regardless of the occasion, I always try to bring a little wit
n' humor and lots of enthusiasm to what I do.

You can tell a lot about a person by what they list as their greatest
accomplishment. Mine has zero, zilch, nada to do with microphones
and CD's.
Next to the two REALLY big events (wedding day and the birth of our
daughter), my greatest accomplishment to date has been "going the distance"...
26.2 miles to be exact.
New
York City Marathon
November 6, 1988

Crossing
the finish line following the most grueling 5 hours of my
life. I got passed by 9 year olds, housewives and Senior Citizens.
It didn't matter... because I finished. I was wacko enough to come
back and complete The
Marathon again in 1989 and 1990. After
three straight years though my
knees said "enough!"
Today
I still enjoy walking, biking and snow skiing as well as more relaxed
pursuits like computer-tinkering,
photography and reading up on military and nautical history (especially
anything related to the Titanic!).
One thing that still gets my heart racing is West
Virginia University football. My wife and I are Mountaineer season
ticket holders and get to as many games as possible.
We've made consecutive
trips to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, FL -- first in 2004 (pictured
above) when the Maryland Terrapins put a whoppin' on us and most
recently for this year's game against Florida State. We lost that
game too, but despite the disappointment, there's nothing like
a day of tailgating, good friends and Mountaineer Football!! |
